I have good excuses for why the site has died of late. This ‘college thing’ is coming to an end: the papers are piling up, the library is becoming a home, the end is near. There’s no looking back.
Diehard Sport should be back in the beginning of May with a new site, writers, content and features. Expect the unexpected….
Who says that all girls play sports fair and nice? It certainly wasn’t the case during a recent high school soccer match between Lewisville and Chester, S.Carolina.
According to the report, Annette McCullough, a senior at Lewisville High School in Richburg, S.C., was charged with third-degree assault and battery for attacking an opposing player from Chester High School during a match on Monday.
From the video it appears that McCullough was barely pushed over. Obviously, McCullough’s actions were not warranted and the assault charges she faces seem reasonable. The name of the victim was not reported, but thankfully she only suffered minor injuries from this frightening incident.
On Saturday night at Scotiabank Place, a Toronto Maple Leafs fan named Alicia stood on the ice during the second intermission wearing a blindfold. When it was removed, she looked up at the video scoreboard and read a message from her girlfriend, an Ottawa Senators fan named Christina.
Schmaltzy music played. Out walked Christina. They embraced and had a brief conversation, as the crowd began to wise up to what was about to happen.
Christina dropped to one knee while holding Alicia’s hand. The fans roared. She slid the engagement ring on, they shared a kiss and the Senators mascot proudly raised a sign that read , “SHE SAID YES.” Just another night at the rink, eh?
St. Louis senior forward, Brian Conklin, broke down following the team’s 65-61 loss to Michigan State in the round of 32. Conklin scored 11 points in his final game under head coach Rick Majerus.
Conklin wasn’t the first NCAA Tournament participant to get tearful following a loss. Kansas State’s head coach, Frank Martin, broke down over his best player, Jamar Samuels, being held out of his final game of his college career for taking $200 from his former AAU coach.
Obviously, this is a passionate time for these coaches and players. The stakes are high and the emotions even higher. There still are more games to be played, and therefore, more teams will fall out of the tournament and certainly more tears will be shed.
As if the Colorado’s student section (C-Unit) needed another reason to celebrate the team’s Pac-12 Conference Tournament title after beating Arizona on Saturday night, the student section stormed the local In-N-Out Burger on athletic director Mike Bohn’s tab.
According to this article by Yahoo! Sports, not only did Bohn fly 50 C-Unit students out to the Staples Center for the Pac-12 Tournament games, he spent $600 for the kids to chow down on burger and fries.
Colorado was seeded sixth in the Pac-12 tournament, finishing the regular season 11-7 in the conference and 23-11 overall. The Buffaloes earned an 11 seed and will face UNLV in the NCAA Tournament.
