Nate Thompson blocks slap shot with face, visor shatters

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nate Thompson went down to block a slap shot from Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green and let’s just say it didn’t go as planned.  The Capitals were on the power play and the slap shot hit Nate Thompson in the side of the head and actually shattered his visor.  Thompson was cut on the play pretty badly and you can actually see Capitals forward Jay Beagle shoot a piece of the visor into the corner while he is standing in front of the net.  I’ve never seen a visor shatter like that and it had to be a very scary moment for Thompson and his Lightning teammates.  Just another argument, along with Marc Staal taking a slap shot to the eye, as to why visors should be mandatory.
