Mayer Hawthorne Campaigns for Thanksgiving Half Time Show

The Detroit Lions playing football on national TV during Thanksgiving day has often been one of the few bright spots for Lions fans. This year, the game has a bit more meaning as the Lions are off to a solid 6-2 start, and play the undefeated reigning Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers.

An online petition recently emerged with Detroit Lions furious about Nickelback being picked to play during half time. The reason behind this anger is due to fans wanting a local musician that represents Detroit (Nickelback is from Canada). The petition started  on the campus of the University of Michigan, and there are already more than 27,000 signatures in two days.

One of the names being mentioned to replace Nickelback is Mayer Hawthorne. Hawthorne, a Hip-Hop artist from Ann Arbor, MI and Diehard Lions fan, told Rolling Stone that, “Detroit is a huge part of everything I do. Not even just in music. It’s a big part of life for me. That’s where I grew up, and it’s the city that I love. I wrote an anthem, an ode to Detroit on my new record.”

Depending on your musical taste, Hawthorne may or may not be the best choice. I, for one, would love to hear my fellow Ann Arborite singing at Ford Field during Turkey Day.
