FIFA Charges Luis Suarez With Biting Chellini, Faces Multi-Match Ban

Luis Suarez

One of the biggest stories out of the World Cup has just gotten bigger; a lot bigger. FIFA has charged Luis Suarez with biting Italy’s Girogio Chellini and now Suarez is under investigation. FIFA’s disciplinary committee has opened proceedings against Suarez and if the panel finds Suarez guilty, he will miss a minimum of two matches and be suspended for up to 24 months. If Suarez is suspended, this would be the third time he has been suspended for biting an opponent.

From Fox Sports:

FIFA’s disciplinary code allows action to be taken retrospectively via video evidence even if the incident has been seen by the referee. Article 77 of FIFA’s disciplinary code states the disciplinary committee is responsible for “sanctioning serious infringements which have escaped the match officials’ attention” and “rectifying obvious errors in the referee’s disciplinary decisions.”

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and hopefully Suarez is suspended. No place for biting in Soccer.
