Rangers Win And Then Lose To Penguins In Wild Shootout

Dan Boyle

It’s not often that you see a victory taken off the board, but after this shootout goal was reviewed by Dan Boyle, that’s exactly what happened. It appeared that Dan Boyle had scored a good goal, but the crew in Toronto wanted it to be reviewed. After reviewing it, it was determined that Boyle double-touched the puck and so the shootout continued. Once it resumed, Brandon Sutter beat Henrik Lundqvist to get the win.

Pretty strange turn of events but it was the right call. Here’s what the NHL Situation Room had to say:

In the shootout of the New York Rangers/Pittsburgh Penguins game, the Situation Room initiated a video review because the puck rebounded off the post before it deflected off Dan Boyle’s stick and into the Pittsburgh net. According to Rule 24.2, “No goal can be scored on a rebound of any kind.” No goal New York Rangers.
