Jonathan Quick’s miscue in overtime costs Kings Game 1

Game one of the Los Angeles Kings-St. Louis Blues game had been a fast-paced, close-checking game and it seemed as though the Blues would win.  The Kings pulled their goalie and Jason Williams scored with 31.4 seconds left to tie the game.

In overtime the Kings controlled the play and had plenty of chances that Blues goalie Brian Elliott kept out.    The Kings were on the power play late in the 1st overtime when Jonathan Quick went back to play the puck and brutally misplayed it.  His bank shot off the boards went right to Alex Steen and in front of his net and Steen had to do nothing except tap it in.

Steen scored both of the Blues goals in their 2-1 win.  Unfortunately for Quick, his masterful performance up until the miscue will be completely forgotten.  His 40 saves will take a backseat to the fact that this play was purely awful.  The Blues now hold a 1-0 lead over the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
