Drew Doughty’s incredible rush leads to goal in last-second goal

Had Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty scored on this rush it would have gone down as one of the best goals of the year.  Instead, it merely becomes one of the hardest earned assists of all-time and the best goal that Doughty has never scored.

With time close to expiring in the second period, Drew Doughty got the puck in his own zone with five Chicago Blackhawks in front of him.  Doughty wove in and out of the Blackhawks on the ice and found himself in front of Corey Crawford, who managed to stop his shot.  As Doughty went for the rebound, he couldn’t get enough on the puck to put it in the net and the puck ended up glancing off his teammate Jordan Nolan’s skate and in the net.

The play was reviewed but the goal stood and tied the game with .5 seconds remaining in the second period.  It was a huge play that gave the Kings momentum going into the third period and the Kings pulled out the win 5-4.
