Jay Cutler leaves game with concussion after huge hit by Texans’ Tim Dobbins

The constant rain has turned this Sunday Night Football game between the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears into an utter slop fest.  But even then it’s not without its big plays.

Tim Dobbins made a play to get after Jay Cutler and unfortunately for Cutler, despite absorbing a massive hit, it was all for nothing.  Cutler had barely crossed the line of scrimmage, making the pass play illegal and nullifying the huge catch and run by WR Devin Hester.

To make matters worse for the Bears QB, Cutler suffered a concussion and it is likely that it came on this hit.  Cutler continued to play until halftime, but did not come back out for the second half; Jason Campbell is the Bears backup quarterback.  Tim Dobbins was flagged on the play for unnecessary roughness, and it looks as though it was a helmet-to-helmet collision.

The NFL determined that the Bears followed NFL concussion protocols correctly even though Cutler stayed in game seven plays after hit. “Our office reviewed it with the [Bears] medical staff and it was properly handled,” said NFL spokesman Greg Aiello to Sun-Times. “The team followed the correct protocol.”
