ESPN’s Rob Parker says absurd things about RG3 on First Take

You know that you are having a serious problem with the direction a conversation is heading when Stephen A. Smith says that he is uncomfortable with where the topic just went.

First Take has always been, and will forever be, a horrific show.  The show is headlined by Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless, two talking heads that debate “relevant” topics in sports and have guests on the show, such as Chad Johnson.

Rob Parker is another frequent talking head that appears on First Take and needless to say, he took the conversation/debate to an absolutely absurd level regarding RG3.  How absurd are we talking?  He questioned whether RG3 was black enough or not.

Here’s a transcript of what Parker said:

“I’ve talked to some people in Washington, D.C. Some people in [Griffin’s] press conferences. Some people I’ve known for a long time. My question, which is just a straight, honest question, is … is he a ‘brother,’ or is he a cornball ‘brother’? He’s not really … he’s black, but he’s not really down with the cause. He’s not one of us. He’s kind of black, but he’s not really like the guy you’d want to hang out with. I just want to find out about him. I don’t know, because I keep hearing these things. He has a white fiancé, people talking about that he’s a Republican … there’s no information at all. I’m just trying to dig deeper into why he has an issue. Tiger Woods was like, ‘I have black skin, but don’t call me black.’ People wondered about Tiger Woods early on — about him.”

Don’t worry, it gets better.  Skip Bayless decided to roll with where Rob Parker was going, instead of questioning it and said, “What do RG3’s braids say to you?”

Rob Parker, continuing his idiocy actually responded to the question and said, “To me, that’s very urban.  It makes you feel like … I think he would have a clean cut if he were more straight-laced or not … wearing braids is … you’re a brother. You’re a brother. If you’ve got braids on.”

I’m just having a hard time believing that someone thought that this was an appropriate topic.  After watching the video, it honestly seems too ridiculous to be true.  Has Rob Parker even met RG3?  How is any of what he said relevant in any way?  Why wasn’t Parker stopped from talking?

An apology has to be coming from Rob Parker soon, and hopefully ESPN will decide to suspend him.  Comments like this are completely ridiculous and have no place on a major network, no matter how terrible the show is.
