Detroit Lions hire Jim Caldwell as next head coach

jim-caldwell-Lions-coachThe Detroit Lions, who missed out on Ken Whisenhunt as their next coach, have hired Ravens’ offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell, according to Adam Schefter.

Caldwell most notably helped the Ravens make their 2012 Super Bowl run while he was their offensive coordinator. He also was the head coach with the Indianapolis Colts when they went  14-2 and lost Super Bowl XLIV to the Saints.

It could be a match made in heaven for Mathew Stafford and a potentially potent Lions offense, but my guess is that most Detroit Lions fans are shaking their heads with this hiring.

Tony Dungy, who spoke with Lions vice chairman Bill Ford Jr., was a big proponent of his former assistant getting the head coaching job:
