Cam Newton’s remarkable 25-yard run

Anything is possible when you’re Cam Newton, right? This twenty-five yard run in which he makes three Redskins defenders miss tackles and look completely ridiculous proves it. Newton led Carolina to their second victory of the season by beating the Redskins 33-20. Video below the jump.

I have to admit, you would be hard pressed to find somebody that has been more critical of Cam Newton than me, but even I was impressed with him yesterday.

Having said that, there still three things that concern me about him…

    1) He throws too many interceptions, and generally makes a lot of bad decisions. In fairness, he's a rookie; I would expect that to get better.

    2) Running quarterbacks don't win. Look at the guys who win championships…they are runners primarily. To succeed, Newton needs to get better in the pocket…again, he's a rookie…

    3) Character matters. Newton has left a trail wherever he's gone, and while I haven't heard anything in Charlotte yet, the absence of news doesn't always mean the absence of a problem. Again, he's a young guy; hopefully he's learned something in the last year or so…

You clearly have not watched Newton play enough.

-He's a pocket passer first and only runs when all his receiver options are unavailable. He's already thrown for over 2,000 yards in his first 7 games. That's a lot of passing yards for a "running QB"
NOTE: The panthers do have some read-running packages for Cam but those are generally only used in the red-zone when they can make the most of his 6'5" 245lbs stature.

-He's been a class act in Charlotte. He's had 0 off the field incidents since being drafted. His NCAA investigation at Auburn has recently been closed and no violations were found. His character was put into question when he was at Florida but that was over 3 years ago when he was 19. I'd imagine he has had and currently has several mentors that keep his head on straight.

-As for the interceptions, he's still a rookie of course. NFL defenses are extremely confusing and Cam's gonna go through a learning curve.

With Cam Newton, the sky's the limit.

Sounds like you want the old quarterback the team had. The black guy has to be perfect starting day one. Growing time for a black quarterback is out of the question. This is black life in sports, it is the way of life. Baseball ran black people out of baseball over the Barry Bonds case. They will not admit it, but it is true. Clements was caught red handed, but so happen to get off on a so call technicality. I believe the government was not that stupid in the Clements case. They worked with baseball to get Clements off. They could not send Bonds to jail and let Clements, and the others go free. A black quarterback could never do what Brat Fave did at the end of his career. Retire and comeback. ,retire and come back. Never in a million years. Newton will have to be perfect, because you and others are just waiting for something to happen. If Cam was white, you would see greatness day one. Since Cam is black, in your mind he might be great. Like I said before , I am not upset at all. TI IS THE WAY OF LIFE. STRONG BLACK PEOPLE FEED ON THAT SENTIMENT TO BECOME GREAT. You can see the same thing with the president of this country, whom appears to get stronger every day..

I see your points but bro, learn their names. It's Roger Clemens not Clements, Brett Favre not Fave. Tebow is the perfect example of what you're talking about. What has he done in the NFL except for one comeback last weekend. I get he's christian and a perfect sports figure, but damn, do we need to hear about him every day.

Cam is ridiculous, he's bigger than his tight end, and runs twice as fast. If I'm a defender, there's noway I'd want to have to try to tackle him. I'd just hope him running me over slows him down enough to where another guy can grab him…
