Report: Josh Hamilton had relapse with alcohol

Here is story that Texas Rangers fans, friends and family, won’t want to hear about Josh Hamilton. According to a source, this Rangers star outfielder had a relapse Tuesday night at a Dallas bar.

The former number one pick of the Tampa Bay Rays, was suspended by Major League Baseball because of drugs and alcohol use back in 2003. Hamilton didn’t return to the majors until 2007, when the Cincinatti Reds took him in the Rule 5 draft.

From the report, it was unclear what led Hamilton to drink. While recovering from a drug and alcohol addiction, other than one excessive drinking incident in 2009, Hamilton has been sober since October, 2005.

The Texas Rangers released a statement that said they were, “aware of a situation, but we didn’t have further comment at this time.” In five season in the majors, Hamilton has hit .305 with 118 home runs and 425 driven in. He signed a 2 year, $24 million dollar contract in 2011, and can be a free agent after the season

This is an unfortunate situation for all parties involved with Hamilton. The guy showed his commitment staying sober, even going as far as staying out of the Rangers locker room after the team had won the ALCS because the team was celebrating with champagne.

Hamilton was also involved in an incident on July 7th, when he flipped a foul ball toward the left-field bleacher seats and spectator, Shannon Stone, lost his balance trying to catch it. Stone fell from Rangers Ballpark, landing on a concrete surface about 20 feet below, killing him.

Obviously… we all wish the best for Hamilton.
