In a truly bizarre incident, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay struck out on a 4-2 pitch. Literally everyone on the field, umpires included, and the announcers forgot the pitch count. The only one that didn’t forget the pitch count was the guy operating the score display on TV, which automatically put Jay on first when ball four came. Home plate umpire Dan Bellino needs to be disciplined for this and it’s pretty sad that no one else on the field was paying attention enough to dispute it.
ESPN’s box score didn’t even know what to do so it stopped at 3-2.
