Lithuanian Hockey Player throws stick at referee at end of U-18 World Championship Game

Lithuania and Great Britain met during round robin play of the Division II Under-18 World Championship in Estonia.  Lithuania was down 3-2 and there was a flurry in front of the Great Britain net, as the puck was cleared out of the zone and time ran out Lithuania’s Danielius Nomanovas (#16) wound up.  He waited until the referee was in front of his path and then launched his stick at him, hitting the referee directly in the arm.  The referee was clearly hurt on the play, going down to one knee in pain and clutching his shoulder.  A Great Britain player took exception to the play and went after Nomanovas, but the referee broke it up.  It’s safe to say that Nomanovas will be getting suspended for this play, likely for the rest of the tournament.
