Eric Staal injured in knee-on-knee collision at World Championships

During the first period of Canada vs. Sweden in the Men’s World Hockey Championships in Stockholm, Sweden, Alexander Edler collided with Eric Staal in a horrific knee-on-knee hit.  Staal was immediately down and writhing in pain.  Staal had to be helped off the ice by trainers and could hardly put any weight on his leg.  Edler was given a five-minute major for kneeing and was ejected from the game, which he was none to pleased about and threw his stick down the hallway towards the locker room.  The Carolina Hurricanes better be praying that Staal’s injury won’t keep him out for the start of next year, but my guess is he tore his ACL.
