Pizza delivery driver fired for commenting on the Buckeyes defense

Only in Columbus, Ohio would something like this happen.  A pizza delivery driver says that his boss fired him, after he made a comment to Luke Fickell’s wife about the Ohio State Buckeyes defense.

The driver says that he told Mrs. Fickell that the Buckeyes defense needed to improve their tackling and she laughed.  This was two days before the Ohio State game against Michigan State.  The next day, he was fired.

The owner of the pizza shop, Iacono’s, said that he cannot comment on employer-employee decisions, and an OSU athletic department spokesman said that it would not be uncommon for a consumer to lodge a complaint over a negative experience.

It seems pretty petty to get a college student fired from his job, just because he made a joke about needing better defense.  It also surprises me that Fickell would have such thin skin, after leading OSU to their worst record in a century, as the interim head coach last year.  To me this whole story doesn’t really add up, and I’m curious to see if anything else ever comes of it.
