Nick Saban sends Alabama prospects photo of NFL players he recruited

Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban has been sending to potential recruits this photo of prospects that he recruited or coached that ended up in the NFL.  Personally, I think it should just be a list of players that he coached that went drafted (which would still be a long list).  Sure, showing which players he recruited (from Toldeo, Michigan State, LSU and Alabama) shows that he can identify talent, but it only makes me think of the fact that he didn’t finish at the school with the players for whatever reason.  Regardless of that, it’s an extremely impressive list and having 33 players drafted out of Alabama the last six years is ridiculous.

UPDATE: According to Coaching Search, the graphic is misleading and he cannot take credit for all of the players on this list.

While still impressive, a little birdie has informed me that Alabama is stretching the truth in this illustration because Nick Saban can’t actually take credit for Demetrius Byrd or Brandon Lafell.  In fact, Byrd came to LSU two years after Saban’s departure. Lafell signed with the Tigers after Saban had accepted the Miami Dolphins’ head coaching job.

LSU beat writer Glenn Guilbeau now tweets, “Stretch isn’t the word if you’re calling Dem. Byrd and Ricky-Jean Francois Saban LSU player.  Factual error. Both ink with Les.”

LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette also tweets that Trindon Holliday’s jersey has no business appearing in this illustration.

He can however take credit for this:

Nine players picked in one draft, with three in the Top 11, is absurd.

What do you mean it makes you think of the fact he didn’t finish with the players at the school for whatever reason? College Football Coaching is a career that is a brutal carousel in which it is rare that coaches stay in one place for very long. How can you fault a man for striving to better his situation and his family’s? You could say the same thing about EVERY other coach in the country with few exceptions. You publish an article praising the man but you have to get your little unfair jab in. Who cares what you think…the numbers don’t lie.

GOT TO SAY: Nick is a recruiter of good talent But the chances are very good that a kid signing with Alabama Lsu Auburn Kentucky etc will get a chance to be drafted at a later date. So in all fairness let the message be “If you come here you may end up here” it depends on you.

Hate him all you want. He is the best recruiter and coach in college football. Look for the Tide to roll in 2013. By the way I’m a Buckeye fan and I am proud to have Meyer as our coach. I also realize a great football program when I see it.

Nick Saban has been great in the SEC. In the NFL with the Dolphins…not so great. In the Big 10 with Michigan State…not so great…sensing a pattern here? Nick is great in a conference where they have no fear of NCAA sanctions or investigations coming their way. Anywhere he has coached where he has been on a level playing field with others Saban has always failed!

What Bama doesn’t seem to realize is that people freaking hate them not just because they are good, but because they’re greedy. It’s not enough to claim what they rightfully should get credit for (which is great), they have to claim half a dozen more MNCs, and now this. It’s just a constant pattern of embellishment which makes me wonder about some kind of deep seated insecurity as a school and fan base. Weird.

Yes, Nick Saban is a great recruiter. But he makes mistakes too. Just because they were drafted doesn’t mean too much. They still need to perform once they get there. After all, JaMarcus Russell and Rolando McClain were his too and they were some of the BIGGEST draft busts. There is always good and bad and as a coach your are going to get both.

Did Satan include all of the footnotes* about the failures of said draftees? failures: drug addicts, drug arrests, assaults, 3 years and out, QB non-contenders (Not Namath. He’s a drunkard and womanizer who wears pantyhose), etc.

  8. I’ve been browsing online greater than 3 hours as of late, yet
I never found any fascinating article like yours. It is pretty value sufficient for me.
In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made good content material as you probably did, the net might be a lot more useful
    than ever before.
