Report: Michigan DC D.J. Durkin Meets With Maryland About Job Opening

According to Yahoo’s Pat Forde, Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin met recently with Maryland officials to talk about their head coach opening.  Forde says that the job was not offered to Durkin, but the interview ‘went well’.

Michigan’s defense has been vastly improved this season under Durkin, his first year in Ann Arbor as part of Jim Harbaugh’s staff. The Wolverines are allowing just 14.9 points per game (down from 22.4 last year) and 263 yards per game (down from 311 last year). Michigan plays Ohio State in the annual rivalry showdown game Saturday to end the regular season.

Maryland is 2-9 on the season and already fired Randy Edsall earlier this year, who compiled a 22-34 record with the Terps. Alabama OC Lane Kiffin and Navy’s Ken Niumatalolo have been mentioned as possible candidates as well.
