Is Taysom Hill Michigan’s Starting QB Next Year?

Prev1 of 2Next

Michigan will be looking for a quarterback next season to replace 5th year senior Jake Rudock. While there are several candidates on the current roster – John O’Korn, Shane Morris, Zach Gentry, Wilton Speight and Alex Malzone – could Michigan look to go the grad-transfer option once again?

BYU QB Taysom Hill, who was once was a Stanford commit while Harbaugh was coaching there, has one more year of eligibility and could be a possibility. According to Vanquish The Foe, SB Nation’s BYU site, Michigan would be the perfect landing spot for the 25-year-old quarterback:

Would Michigan be interested? Unquestionably. Their current QB, former Iowa transfer Jake Rudock, leaves the program after this season. Another transfer, former Houston Cougar John O’Korn may be the favorite to take the job next year, but that certainly isn’t secure. Michigan’s best hope to take over the position long term, either Alex Malzone, or incoming freshman Brandon Peters, will both be very young next year. If a QB as decorated and talented as Hill came on the transfer market, the Wolverines would certainly be a team that could use a stop-gap senior leader.

MGoBlog’s Brian Cook and Ace Anbender also discussed the rumor of Hill playing at Michigan on their weekly WTKA radio spot.

It’s still unclear, however, if Hill, who will have graduated after this year, plans on continuing his football career (he has suffered three season-ending injuries). Similarly, Michigan may not have a scholarship open and could feel comfortable at the position for next season. We’ll just have to wait and see how things unfold.
