Mel Kiper Has Devin Funchess Going In The First Round No. 26 Overall

Funchess-Hurlde-OSU

Michigan’s Devin Funchess is expected to be a 1st round pick, according to Mel Kiper’s 2015 Draft version 1.0.  Although Funchess had somewhat of a disappointing junior year (62 catches, 733-yards, 4 TDs), the 6-foot-5, 230 pounder is still the 5th WR taken in ESPN’s mock draft. Here’s what Kiper had to say about Funchess:

Analysis: It’s not really fair to call Funchess a tight end based on where he typically lines up, but at more than 6-foot-4 and at about 235 pounds with the ability to simply overpower most cornerbacks, he’s not exactly a flanker, either. What I’d call him is a perpetual matchup problem, a guy you can move around, with the quickness to run crisp routes and easily create space if linebackers try to cover him and enough size to make cornerbacks have to go through him for the ball. Joe Flacco can use a weapon like Funchess, as could Gary Kubiak, assuming he passes on any other overtures.

Other notable players in Kiper’s mock: Jameis Winston is going No. 1 to the Bucs, Marcus Mariota No. 2 to the Titans, MSU’s Trae Waynes No. 16 to the Texans, Detroit taking Texas DT Malcolm Brown and Ohio State’s Devin Smith going No.32 to the Seahawks.
