Will Rich Rodriguez be Tulane’s next head coach?

After accumulating a 15-40 record at Tulane, football head coach, Bob Toledo, resigned from his position on Tuesday. Tulane AD, Rick Dickson, said at a press conference that the coaching search has began.

Rumors are  swirling that former W.V. and Michigan head coach and current CBS Sports Network analysist, Rich Rodriguez, may be willing to accept the position.

Would this make sense for Tulane and Rich Rodriguez? Certainly.

Rich Rodriguez was the offensive coordinator for Tulane from 1997 to 1998. His 1998 team, led by Shaun King, went 12-0 and averaged 44.3 points per game.

Rich Rodriguez would be returning to a prior recruiting stomping ground where he’s gotta be pretty ‘familiar’ with some of the high school coaches and players. Not recruiting the instate guys well was one of the bigger disappointments for me when Rodriguez was at Michigan. It’s also fair to say that coaching at Tulane, with less pressure than his previous two positions, would be an added reason to return to coaching.

If I were athletic director Rick Dickson, I’d see if Rodriguez is interested, offer him a big check, then see if his offense is good enough to win a few more CUSA games.
