#1’s Fall

Over the weekend, the once undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes fell to the Wisconsin Badgers. Playing in Madison, Wisconsin has the best home court record over the last ten years, so this by any means is not a shocker. Jordan Taylor of Wisconsin was the games big story scoring 21 of his 27 points in the second half.

The most recent #1 ranked team, Kansas, fell to Kansas State on Monday night. Kansas was without a few key bench players, but fell badly 84-68. Kansas looked lackadaisical on defense and allowed Jacob Pullen to catch fire netting 38. This was a much needed win for the 17-9 KSU team still fighting for a tournament spot.

I wouldn’t be surprised if both Ohio State and Kansas got #1 seeds in the NCAA tournament. However, it is apparent that both teams aren’t untouchable as most people thought.  Coach Bill Self of Kansas will have his hands full and might not even win the Big 12 with a dominating Texas on top of the league. Similarly, Thad Matta and his Ohio State team has not looked good since dismantling Purdue on Christmas Day. We’ll be able to tell how OSU responds to their first loss with three consecutive important Big Ten games, Michigan State, Purdue and Illinois.
