Michigan State Recruit Bails on Commitment for Rap Career

This isn’t the first time that a recruit has bailed on a commitment to a school, but it is definitely the first time that a recruit has bailed in order to pursue a rap career.

Three-star wide receiver Jay Harris from Exton, PA, decided to bail on his commitment to the Michigan State Spartans in order to pursue his rap career.  He goes by the name Jay DatBull and his first single is currently up on YouTube with more than 50,000 hits.

In an interview with Philly.com Harris said that he has a mixtape slated to be released on June 1st:

“I try to take advantage of every opportunity I get and for him to like my music and reach it to me, I really appreciated that,” Harris said.

Harris said his commitment to Michigan State last year was “halfhearted.” He said he first flirted with a career in music during his freshman year at Downingtown East.

“I’ve always had this in the back of my head, but never had the courage to tell my parents that this is what I want to do,” Harris said.

Harris had 54 catches for 792 yards and 13 touchdowns last fall for Downingtown East High School and was ESPN’s 17th ranked wide receiver.  It’s not every day that a kid passes on a free education to a Big Ten school for a rap career.
