When you’re are the quarterback of a team and expected to be a leader, it’s a bad sign when your teammates have no confidence in you.
According to the NY Daily News, New York Jets players believe Tebow shouldn’t be starting at quarterback, and going as far as saying, “he’s terrible.”
There has been a lot of hoopla over the quarterback situation in New York since the offseason when Tebow was traded from the Broncos to the Jets. With the the Jets starting their season 3-6 under their current starter, Mark Sanchez, many fans are calling for Tebow to get his shot.
However, according to Jets left guard Matt Slauson, Tebow isn’t even a contender for starting quarterback.
“It’s not even close,” said Slauson. “All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We don’t really have a choice.” Slauson then mentioned the backup quarterbacks for the Jets including third stringer Greg McElroy. “We have Greg….and we have an athlete.” Presumably Slauson is referring to Tebow as the athlete.
More than a dozen Jets players and members of the organization have negative things to say about Tebow, according to Manish Mehta. One starter said of the possibility of employing Tebow and his wildcat offense at QB, “Hell, no! You got to keep defenses honest. You just can’t line up in the Wildcat all the time. That won’t work.”
The Jets quarterback drama will probably play itself out over the next few games, but It doesn’t appear that Tebow-Jets combination will last any time past this season.
