Fighter knocks himself out on kick

I’ve never seen anything quite like what Dan Lariviere did in his Empire Fight League 4 bout against Jeremie Capony.

During the second round of Saturday’s match in Montreal, Lariviere attempted the flying switch-kick, but missed his opponent’s head, causing Lariviere to land awkwardly on his right arm and shoulder, knocking himself out.

Luckily, this once-in-a-lifetime occurrence was caught on tape, although the video quality isn’t the greatest.

A better view of what happened to Lariviere (via commenter dayman below).

    • True, this will go in the W column, but celebrating it is like celebrating if the other team doesn’t show. A true athlete only celebrates his accomplishments, not his opponents failures.

  1. I’ve never really watched MMA, not my thing. The “fighter knocks himself out” tag made me take a look as that sounded funny. Again, I don’t watch this, but this is like “pro” wrestling, right? Landed squarely on his shoulder. No where near his neck or head. He then makes what looked to be a deliberate jerking motion to lay out. This is fake right? I now people like the fake pro stuff, is this the same?

    • not fake…just assanine…i love MMA and watch it every chance i get…i have done MMA myself and i can guarantee you there is nothing fake about those bumps and bruises and broken noses and shit…but this guy just needs to go back to the basics..that was stupid from jump

    • No…if you look again, he hit his head pretty soundly…and that’s without putting his hands down to brace for the inertia. Sort of like when Roy Jones jr. was knocked out by Glen Johson. The punch was damaging, but he was’nt knocked out until he hit the back of his head. Check it out again, see what you think.

  2. First you idiots this is kick boxing and second watch the video of the fight from the other camera there, and you will see his head snap off the floor!!!.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OzwCX8z3NU&feature=related

    • haha nice you put the better angle on the site, dont i get any credit for that haha, now you just have to change the title to ‘kick boxer knocks himeslf out’

  3. Looks like he slipped and hit his head hard on the mat, didn’t see anything where he kicked himself in the head in either of the films.  PHONY

  4. watch his left hand, at two separate times it looks like he may have punched himself in the head while winding up his kick there… other than that it looks like a dive…
