John Carlson’s stellar defensive play stops goal at last second

During the Washington Capitals-Carolina Hurricanes game on Thursday night, Hurricanes defenseman Jay Harrison fired a slap shot that just trickled between the legs of Capitals goalie Braden Holtby.  As the puck was going towards the goal line, Capitals defenseman John Carlson skated in and kept the puck out of the net.  The goal would have been a momentum killer going into the intermission and would have given the Hurricanes a two-goal lead.  Instead the goal left it at 1-0 after the 1st period, and the Capitals were able to come back and win 3-1.
