Skip Bayless Thinks RGIII Should be Backup to Kirk Cousins

Outspoken ESPN reporter Skip Bayless has had a lot to say about the quarterback situation in Washington this offseason and it appears he isn’t done yet.

It started after the NFL draft when the Redskins picked both 2nd overall Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins in the fourth round. Yes, the selection of Cousins raised some questions for the team, most notably whether this pick indicated that the team had doubts about RGIII. In fact, the team really did need a starting quarterback and a back-up to him.

Today on ESPN’s First Take, Skip Bayless was back on his soapbox proclaiming that Cousins is better right now than RGIII.

That being said, Cousin’s has had an impressive preseason. In two games, he is 27-55 for 348 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Compare that to Griffin’s 9-14 for 139 yards, one touchdown and one lost fumble, and the numbers look to be in Cousin’s favor.

We need to remember, though, that Griffin has seen very limited action and has played against each opponent’s first team offensive. Cousins has played a lot this preseason and largely against players who won’t be on the team come the first week of the season.

Along with that, Griffin appears poised in the pocket and also looks comfortable with his decision-making outside the pocket except for his one lost fumble. He has the speed to survive in the NFL and once he learns the complete offense, the league and team defenses better watch out.
