Gordon Gee takes shot at Notre Dame and the SEC

Ohio State President Gordon Gee has been known to say some pretty stupid things, between him and Ohio State’s Athletic Director Gene Smith, it’s tough to keep track.  On Thursday, some comments emerged from a December 5th meeting of the school’s athletic council.  Gee had a few choice words about Notre Dame, the SEC, the academic integrity of the Big Ten and the Big Ten’s President Jim Delany.

In regards to Notre Dame he said: “The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they’re holy hell on the rest of the week. You just can’t trust those damn Catholics on a Thursday or a Friday, and so, literally, I can say that.”

Then he turned his attention to the SEC fans that question the Big Ten’s name because they have 14 teams: “You tell the SEC when they can learn to read and write, then they can figure out what we’re doing.”

Then he discussed the Big Ten’s academic integrity: “So you won’t see us adding Louisville. Or Kentucky.”

And capped it off by taking a few shots at Jim Delany: “No one admires Jim Delany more than I do. I chaired the committee that brought him here. Jim is very aggressive, and we need to make certain he keeps his hands out of our pockets while we support him.”

Gee has already issued an apology for the comments that he made, saying, “The comments I made were just plain wrong, and in no way do they reflect what the university stands for.  They were a poor attempt at humor and entirely inappropriate.”

Ohio State then told the AP that Gee is undergoing a “remediation plan” for the comments that he made.  Though I doubt anything will come of it.
