Erik Gustaffson knocks put into his own net

The Philadelphia Flyers have been one of the biggest disappointments in the NHL this year.  It’s gotten to the point that when Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov was asked about how he felt about being bought out at the end of the year he replied, “to be honest, I don’t care.”  The Flyers traded for Steve Mason at the trade deadline and he made his first start on Tuesday night against the New York Islanders.

Unfortunately for Mason he didn’t get much help and made 28 saves in a 4-1 loss.  Mason did all he could to stop his opponents, but he didn’t account for having to stop his own teammates too.  After making the initial stop on John Tavares, Flyers defenseman Erik Gustaffson dove to stop Matt Moulson and knocked the puck into his own net with his hip.  The goal made the score 3-1 with 1:37 left and ruined any chance the Flyers had of coming back.
