RPI upsets #3 Union in college hockey game, leads to brawl & coach fight

Unranked RPI took on #3 Union in the second annual battle for the Capital District Mayor’s Cup at the Times Union Center on Saturday Night. When the final horn sounded and RPI’s upset was complete, the two benches emptied and coaches Rick Bennett and Seth Appert started going at it. In the video, Union coach Rick Bennett is the one throwing punches and getting held back by the referees.

Union’s Eli Lichtenwald and Mat Bodie and RPI’s Mike Zalewski and Luke Curadi were given game misconduct penalties and tossed out of the game, even though the game was already over. The four of them will receive a one-game suspension for their troubles and you can bet that the coaches will be getting suspended as well.
