Swedish team scores strangest goal ever from own zone after opponents no-show faceoff

Well it looks like we have the winner for strangest goal of the year and a strong candidate for strangest goal of all-time.  Färjestad was taking on Leksand when Färjestad was taking too long to line up for the faceoff.  The Linesman is allowed to drop the puck if the both teams are not lined up within five seconds of him being ready and that is exactly what happened.

Leksand captain Gabriel Karlsson picked up the puck, looked at his stunned opponents and then shot the puck down the ice.  Färjestad goalie Fredrik Pettersson Wentzel was drinking from his water bottle when the puck went right by him and into the net.  Obviously everyone was upset about the play, but Färjestad went on to win the game 5-1 and you can guarantee they will be more punctual going to the faceoff dots from now on.
