Sabres, Lightning Combine For 106 PIMs In Chippy Third Period

The Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning got very chippy on Thursday night after the Lightning spent the first two periods dominating the Sabres. Sabres D Mike Weave gave Steven Stamkos a shot and Stamkos slashed at his stick, causing all hell to break loose and lead to this awesome photo.

Then a minute later, Lightning D Victor Hedman crushed Sabres F Zemgus Girgensons and it set off another big time scrum.

The hit seemed pretty clean to me, but tensions were running so high at this point that it didn’t matter. In total, 106 penalty minutes were handed out in the third period alone, leading to this funny looking box score.
