Justin Abdelkader Downs Blues In OT With Broken Stick Goal

Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader was posted in front of Jake Allen on the powerplay when a Marek Zidlicky shot hit his stick. The puck dropped at his feet and he began to hack away when his stick completely broke. Before dropping the stick though, Abdelkader put the puck into the net for the win.

Give credit to Abdelkader for disguising the broken stick, but this goal is exactly why coaches need a challenge. No reason that this play shouldn’t have been reviewed.
