The New York Jets couldn’t get out of their own way on Sunday. On fourth down late in the fourth quarter, Geno Smith threw a perfect pass up to Jeremy Kerley for what appeared to be the game-tying touchdown.
But unfortunately, the Jets called a timeout before the play and the crowd noise made it tough to hear the whistle. Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg called a timeout and the referees gave it to him, even though head coaches are the only ones who can call them.
Rex Ryan couldn’t believe what the refs told him because he knew he didn’t call the timeout. The Jets ended up converting on 4th down anyways, but couldn’t get in the end zone.
