The 2014-15 New York Knicks’ ship is sinking rather quickly, and after only 24 games into signing a five-year, $124 million deal, Carmelo Anthony is reportedly willing to waive the no-trade clause in his contract and get traded to a contender.
If [Phil] Jackson looks to trade Anthony, the Bulls would be the obvious candidate. They pursued him heavily in the offseason, and the new documentary on his free agency tour depicted how close Anthony came to asking Jackson for a sign-and-trade to Chicago, since he didn’t want to accept the $74 million offer the Bulls had room for under the cap.
Starting on Monday, draft picks that were signed during last offseason can be traded, and according to the terms of Melo’s contract, Anthony would receive a payment of about $17.5 million if he is dealt by Monday.
As the Caremlo Anthony free-agency documentary showed, he was between the Bulls and Knicks and eventually chose New York. Would Chicago be interested in doing a trade for Carmelo? Frank Isola of the NY Daily News thinks this it’s a bit of a reach:
