Derek Fisher Signs 5 Year/$25 Million Deal to Become New Knicks Head Coach

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, Derek Fisher has signed a 5 year/$25 million contract to become the new head coach of the New York Knicks. Phil Jackson, the team’s Director of Player Personnel, wanted to initially hire his former player Steve Kerr, but when he spurned the Knicks to become the new Warriors’ head coach, Jackson was forced to turn to another one of his ex-players, Fisher.

This should be a very good hire for New York, as the last pro to turn coach the year after retiring, Jason Kidd, won a playoff series in his first season overseeing the Nets. And, what’s also amazing is that D. Fish will be making more money this year than he did the last three years, $4.7 million, as a player combined.
