Four first-time starters undermine the 2014 NBA All-Star Game selections

Earlier today, the starters for the 2014 NBA All-Star Game, which will take place on February 16th in New Orleans, were revealed. Underscoring the selections were four first-time starters: Paul George, who’s a strong candidate for 2014 NBA MVP, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, and one of the best shooters in NBA history, Steph Curry.

Here’s a list of all ten starters:
Eastern Conference: LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Kyrie Irving, Paul George, Carmelo Anthony
Western Conference: Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love

There’s not much to complain about in the East, other than the fact that John Wall is having a superb season and should probably be starting over Kyrie, who had an abysmal start to January. However, in the West, there’s a lot that’s wrong. Dwight Howard, who’s averaging 18.3 PPG and 12.6 RPG, was not voted a starter while Kobe Bryant, who’s played in all of six games this year, received the third-most votes out of any player in the Western Conference. Needless to say, all-star games across all sports are becoming somewhat of a joke.
