Matt Holliday apologizes for hard slide into Marco Scutaro

Giants fans were reminded again of the dirty tactics that other teams can use when colliding with their players.

Marco Scutaro was lucky he wasn’t seriously injured on this slide from Matt Holliday. During the first inning of Game 2 of the NLDS, the San Francisco Giant were attempting to turn a double play on the St. Louis Cardinals. Matt Holliday tried breaking up the double play by barreling into second baseman Marco Scutaro.

X-rays were negative for Scutaro’s hip, but the play was certainly reminiscent of last season’s injury to Buster Posey that cost him most of the 2011 season.  It will be interesting to see if the Giants attempt to retaliate because this was definitely a dirty slide by Holliday. San Francisco won the game 7-1.
