Central Hockey League’s Tulsa Oilers become Gotham Crusaders for one night

In an attempt to try and promote their team and get more fans to attend their games, the Central Hockey League’s Tulsa Oilers have been renamed the Gotham Crusaders for one night only.  The jerseys they will wear are then going to be auctioned off on the team website after the game.

Here is a statement from the Oilers website:

On November 23, Gotham City and Tulsa citizens are invited to witness the squad of 18 crusaders as they take the ice dressed in Limited Edition Batman hockey jerseys created exclusively for this event and featuring the iconic Bat Signal. After the game, the game jerseys will be auctioned off in the ONEOK Club in the BOK Center.

In honor of this special event presented by Z-104.5 The Edge, Gotham City children 12 and under will receive free admission to the Crusaders game on November 23  at the BOK Center.

“This is a once in a lifetime chance for our fans and players to experience Tulsa hockey in a whole new light,” said Tulsa Oilers and Gotham City Crusaders General Manager Taylor Hall.

The Oilers have also encouraged the fans to wear black to support the team and while I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this idea, it is definitely one of the most creative and unique ideas I’ve ever seen.  I would love to see how they came up with this idea and how they decided to do Batman as opposed to Superman or something else similar to that.
