CCHL game decided by ridiculous 25 round shootout

The CCHL is a Junior A league in Canada that is made up of teams in Eastern Ontario.  This league is typically very good and it was the league where Steve Yzerman got his start playing for the Nepean Raiders.  On March 10th, the Ottawa Jr. Senators and the Kemptville 73s went to a shootout after being tied 3-3 through overtime.  Both goalies performed fantastically in the shootout, only allowing ONE goal between the two of them.  It’s pretty fitting that after plenty of great moves and great saves that the only goal comes off a trickling shot that barely got past the goaltender.

Kemptville goalie Billy Cooper had 24 saves and stopped all the shooters in the win, while Ottawa’s goalie Alexandre Savard-Belanger had 31 saves and allowed the only goal.  Obviously, Kemptville was happy to get the win despite the fact that they are already eliminated from playoff contention.  I think the happiest person though, was the announcer from Fast Hockey when the game finally ended and he could go home.

This isn’t the first time this year there has been a lengthy shootout in a hockey game, there was a 21 round shootout in the ECHL on February 23rd.
