Report: Ahmir Mitchell Likely Headed To This B1G School

According to NJ.com’s Todderick Hunt, Ahmir Mitchell will likely be heading to Rutgers.

Mitchell, who announced his transfer earlier in August after being suspended from the team, is from Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. Hunt reports that several schools were after the former four-star WR but his family wanted him close to home:

Maryland was the program working the hardest to land Mitchell to the fold as well as a number of the nation’s most storied college programs. However, Mitchell’s support system felt it was in his best interest to attend a program close to home — like Rutgers or Temple — where he’ll be nurtured, and has family close by.

Per Big Ten transfer rules, Mitchell will have to sit out the 2016 season, and will lose an additional year of eligibility, in order to transfer home. That would leave him ith three years to play three.

But Mitchell is expected to appeal the rule, and potentially even fight for a hardship waver, which although unlikely, could get him on the field as early as this year.
