Saint Mary’s coaches don’t want to hold forward Brad Waldow’s tooth

Saint Mary’s Brad Waldow had a career night Saturday against San Diego. The sophomore forward scored a career-high 23 points while also getting 16 rebounds. However, it was an inadvertent elbow to his mouth that led to one of the funnier moments of the college basketball season.

San Diego’s Chris Manresa went up for a rebound and one of his elbows came down right on Waldow’s mouth, knocking out a tooth. With a tooth in hand, the 6’9” Waldow went over to his coaches to hand them his tooth. Head coach Randy Bennett had the best reaction, looking at the tooth and pointing down the bench for someone else to take it.

With Saturday’s 69-66 win, the Gaels face top-ranked Gonzaga in the WCC Championship game. Waldow is day-to-day after having surgery.

Note to all coaches: In order to avoid awkward moments such as this, have a carton of milk at all games in which to place knocked out teeth.
