Former Michigan Wolverine PG Daniel Horton did an interview with The Wolverine’s Dotman, and there’s an interesting nugget regarding how Chris Bosh nearly joined the former McDonald’s All American at Michigan. Horton, who played on the same AAU team with Bosh in Texas, says that it was likely because of the 9/11 attacks that the ten time NBA All Star didn’t play in Ann Arbor. Via Scout.com ($):
We long talked about playing in college together so after I committed to UM he scheduled an official visit to UM. That visited was cancelled because of attacks on 9/11. Georgia Tech then called and had him and his parents drive over for a visit and he committed to them.

He kinda found in G-Tech what I found in UM. Not saying that if not for 9/11 he would have definitely attended UM with me but I think there was a very good chance of that happening.
Bosh was ranked as the No. 13 player in the country and Horton No. 14, according to ESPN’s Top 100 players from 2002. The 6-foot-11 foward wound up going to Georgia Tech, was the ACC Freshman of the Year and ended up being selected by the Raptors at No. 4 in the 2003 draft. Meanwhile, due to probation from the Ed Martin scandal, Michigan never made the NCAA tournament during Horton’s tenure in Ann Arbor.
