In the first period of Tuesday night’s matchup between the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues, Blues forward Max Lapierre hit Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle with a vicious hit from behind. Boyle’s face hit the dasher (top of the boards) and the glass, knocking him clearly out cold. A melee ensued after the Sharks players realized what had happened and Lapierre was given two five minute majors (one for the hit and one for fighting) and a game misconduct. Lapierre will have a phone call from Brendan Shanahan tomorrow and will likely be getting suspended for the hit.
Luckily it appears that Dan Boyle is awake and alert after being stretchered off.
Good news MT @DanRusanowsky As reported on Sharks Radio per @SanJoseSharks : Dan Boyle is alert and responsive on the way to the hospital.
