Jose-Hernandez-spits-on-base-home-runThe last start of the season for Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Hernandez won’t be best known for his nasty stuff on the mound.

After hitting his first home-run of the season during the bottom of the sixth inning, the 21-year-old Hernandez, who is the favorite to win the N.L. Rookie of the Year award, trotted around first and second base and then proceeded to spit on third.

The bad blood between the two teams all started during the top of the 6th inning with Hernandez and the Braves’ Chris Johnson getting into a yelling match.

Hernandez (12-6, 2.19 ERA) did apologize for the incident in a press conference following the game.

“I said, ‘I’m really sorry, I’m embarrassed and that’s something that won’t ever happen again,’” Fernandez said. “McCann said, ‘Hey, man, you’re a kid but you’re in the big leagues. You need to do what big leaguers do.’”

You may recall that a similar thing happened back in August when Bryce Harper admired his home run and the Braves taking exception to it.  Moving along.
