Nate Burleson: Calvin Johnson better than Randy Moss in prime

There aren’t many wide receivers that can dominate like Calvin Johnson or Randy Moss. Blessed with ungodly size and speed, you can’t go wrong with either of these pass catchers.

According to Nate Burleson, a current Detroit Lions and a one-time teammate of Randy Moss in Minnesota, Megatron is the better of the two.

Burleson told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press: “When I was playing with Randy I thought to myself, I will never play with another receiver like this. He’s the best I’ve ever seen. And now that I’m playing with Calvin I say, I’ll never play with another receiver like this. He’s the best I’ve ever seen.”

Burleson later stressed that you cannot go wrong with either of the two. “At the end of the day, you’re going to be able to put in their career highlight tapes and it’s going to be up to the discretion of the viewer who was better. My opinion, whew, I’m going to have to go with my guy that I’m playing with now. Calvin, he’s an absolute monster, he’s a freak of nature. But they’re both going to go down in history as the biggest threats of all-time.”

The 26-year-old Johnson had his best season in the NFL last year when he had 1,681-yard receiving and 16 touchdown. Moss, currently playing with the 49ers,  is a six-time Pro Bowler and is tied for second in NFL history with 153 touchdowns. Moss’ best year was in 2003 with the Minnesota Vikings when he had 1,632 yards receiving and 17 touchdowns.

It’s hard to argue for either one of the wide-outs, but of course he’s not going to throw his teammate under the bus and say that he’s not the best.

Even Burleson’s brothers are on the fence. “We pop in the tape and there’s days that I waiver when I see Moss highlights and then I’ll call them back during the summer and I’ll say, ‘Nah, you should have saw this play that Calvin made today. He’s a living legend,’” Burleson said. “I’m just fortunate enough to play the Robin to their Batman. I’ve been aside two greats and I’m going to continue to eat the crumbs off their plates.”

We’ll get to examine these two wide receivers this weekend during Sunday Night Football between the 49ers-Lions. Tune in.

Take a look at these two highlight films and you can be the judge on who’s better.
